An award for chronicling the death of newspapers

Filed under: Uncategorized — lisarab @ 7:59 pm

I started this blog to vent about the depressing state of my industry. Hundreds of talented reporters and friends were losing their jobs across the country, and  investigative journalism was disappearing with them.

Now, in a moment of great irony, I’ve won a newspaper award for chronicling this problem. The Association of Alternative Newsweeklies gave me first place for media reporting for this piece: “The Rise and Fall of South Florida’s Daily Newspapers.”

So the old adage is true: It’s always best to write what you know. And I’m grateful every day for that opportunity.

  1. Just want to thank you for the work you did in Cleveland. I suppose the idiots here drove you away and the lack of a future. It’s crippling for us. Take care.

  2. Thank you for writing, Laura. No one drove me away from Cleveland — I really loved living there. I left when the Cleveland Scene changed ownership. But I still care deeply about the city, and the people that fight daily to improve it. I wish you all the best!
